On the first Sunday of the New Year we hold our annual Beach Training at Ocean Beach in San Francisco at 7:00 AM. What better way to bring in the New Year than with a short mediation early in the morning followed by a light workout alongside the Pacific Ocean? It is always good to sweat after the holidays and ease into our regular schedule of training.

Once training has ended we’ll have a “Chicken Fight” where the objective is to capture the hat from the other team.

This year the San Francisco dojo triumphed over San Mateo after a fierce effort from both sides. The loser must take a quick dip in the ocean and more than a few of the San Mateo side decided to jump in anyway.

Afterwards, we’ll continue to another favorite activity when we go to the dojo for traditional Japanese New Year food and drinks! As with our annual cookout and holiday party, it is a time when families can chat together in a relaxed setting before the training, sweating and cries of OSU! begin with our regular schedule.
